OPTICS SUITCASE

Discovery of light

The OSA Rochester Section distributes and maintains the optics suitcase, a tool used worldwide to teach the impact of light to communities and youth.  The suitcase is available through the OSA Rochester suitcase store, and can be picked up in Rochester or at optics conferences or shipped worldwide.

WHAT IS THE OPTICS SUITCASE?

The Optics Suitcase was created as an outreach kit for the international optics community, exposing people to the concepts such as imaging, polarization and optical properties of materials, and diffraction.

The Suitcase is named in honor of Dr. Stephen D. Jacobs, who served as the Educational Outreach Chair for OSA Rochester for over 15 years and was committed to spreading education on optics.

Now the optics suitcase can be found traveling around the world for various community and school enrichment activities.

The Optics Suitcase Lesson Plan is available here.
