The UofR and MCC optics community are collaborating on an optics outreach tent at the 2025 Lilac Festival, and need your help running the booth! This is an exciting chance to engage with the greater Rochester community and share some exciting optics demos. No special equipment or expertise needed, just sign up for a volunteer slot and come ready to talk about the pre-set optics demos alongside students and other professionals in the Rochester Optics community! This event is a wonderful opportunity to bring some really cool optics demos, information, and general presence into the local community. I'm sure all of us have been touched at some point in the past with cool optics/science demos - and now you all have the opportunity to do the same for kids, parents, families, and the general community!
In order to productively impact the community, we will need a large number of volunteers, so feel free to signup, bring your optics friends, and have a great time guiding the community through demos! The dates for the event are May 9 to 18. Signup slots below are for 2-hour time periods, but feel free to sign up for however many you wish! We have 4 designated parking spots, so feel free to carpool!
Everyone who volunteers for at least one of the sessions will receive a free 2025 optics Lilac Festival shirt! (While supplies last - limited to first 100 participants)
