Dr. Adam Heiniger, TOPTICA

Abstract

Lasers enable diverse techniques in quantum technology, biology, and sensing. In this presentation, I will give examples of TOPTICA’s efforts to advance the state of the art in each of these areas: TOPTICA is improving SWaP of laser systems to help quantum sensors move from the laboratory to the field, and to help increase the processing power of quantum computers. We’re improving the performance and reducing the cost of ultrafast lasers that help to record neuronal activity in living brains. And we’re improving the speed and sensitivity of spectroscopic trace gas detection systems. In each of these cases, TOPTICA has rapidly commercialized new techniques in order to keep abreast of trends in research. 

About the speaker

Adam Heiniger is the Product Manager at TOPTICA Photonics for the TOPO, a cw optical parametric oscillator, and for TOPTICA's optical isolators. Dr. Heiniger studied physics at the University of Iowa and earned a Ph.D. at the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics. There he studied communications and biosensing in photonic integrated circuits, and high-power fiber amplifiers. Adam began his career at TOPTICA in scientific sales before moving into product management and application science. He has led the development of TOPTICA products, and is the author of several publications, conference presentations, and patents.
