Abstract
High power & energy lasers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) demand optics with greater precision, functionality, and especially survivability. In the following presentation, an overview of the optics development efforts and their use in these lasers systems will be discussed. Special emphasis will be given on the reduction & management of laser damage on optics in the National Ignition Facility (NIF) laser enabling higher cumulative power & energy laser shots as well as on the latest research & development on the fabrication of freeform optics to enable novel future laser designs.
This work was performed under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Energy by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under Contract DE-AC52-07NA27344.
